Exploratory groups

Exploratory Groups are interdisciplinary research groups, including affiliates from across the university. These are emerging research areas in sustainability where ISF is involved in creating a coalition of faculty affiliates to tackle these challenges.

Areas of exploration

Exploratory Group

Future and advanced manufacturing

Led by Shweta Singh (SEE), the Future and Advanced Manufacturing exploratory group brings together diverse Purdue research teams to address the challenges shaping the next generation of manufacturing. While individual areas of research focus on scaling and innovation, this group fosters a cohesive, collaborative effort to ensure manufacturing transitions are both economical and sustainable. Through shared discussion and a working paper series, the group aims to position Purdue as a leader in developing solutions for emerging industry challenges and advancing sustainable growth and workforce development across Indiana, the Midwest, and beyond.

Exploratory Group

African sustainability and resilience

Led by Kolapo Ajuwon (ANSC), AFSURE is a new interdisciplinary initiative of the Institute for a Sustainable Future (ISF) aimed at exploring research and development opportunities related to sustainability and resilience in Africa. By bringing together faculty and other researchers from across the university, the group provides a platform from which to advance cross-cutting solutions consistent with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Exploratory Group

Amazon sustainability

Led by Andrea Liceaga (FS), the Amazon Sustainability and Empowerment Group (ASEG) brings together Purdue faculty, graduate students, and staff to help conserve the Amazon while empowering local and Indigenous communities through collaborative research. The group focuses on understanding the connections between people and nature, identifying local resources and byproducts with potential for sustainable bioprocessing and biobusiness applications. Through partnerships with local institutions and Amazon communities, ASEG promotes a responsible, culturally respectful approach to managing and utilizing the region’s natural resources while supporting long-term environmental and social sustainability.
