Dr. Kolapo Ajuwon is a Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University. His work advances understanding of how nutrition and metabolism influence animal health, productivity, and overall system efficiency, with implications for both agricultural sustainability and human health. At ISF, he is the lead of the Africa Sustainability exploratory research group.

His research centers on nutritional physiology and metabolic regulation, with a focus on how dietary components influence growth, immune function, and metabolic health in livestock systems. His work explores the biological mechanisms that connect nutrient utilization to animal performance and well-being.

In addition to his research, Dr. Ajuwon plays an active role in teaching, mentoring, and academic leadership within Purdue’s College of Agriculture. He engages with students, industry partners, and interdisciplinary collaborators to advance research and education in animal sciences.

Education

Ph.D., Animal Science – University of Kentucky M.S., Animal Science – University of Ibadan B.S., Agriculture – University of Ibadan

Research Interests

As a researcher in animal nutrition and metabolic biology, his research examines inflammation, metabolic disorders, and energy balance, helping to identify strategies that improve efficiency in animal production while maintaining health and welfare. This work contributes to broader efforts to optimize food systems through science-driven approaches to nutrition and physiology.

Research Impact

Dr. Ajuwon’s work contributes to improving animal production systems through a deeper understanding of metabolic and nutritional processes, supporting advancements in food quality, agricultural efficiency, and sustainability. His research helps bridge fundamental biological science with applied agricultural outcomes, benefiting producers, industry, and consumers alike.
