How mosquitos hear may inspire new ways to detect natural disasters

Purdue researchers Ximena Bernal (BIO) and Pablo Zavattieri (CE) are studying mosquito antennae to develop advanced acoustic sensors that could improve disaster detection, such as earthquakes and tsunamis. By analyzing the unique structural features of these antennae, the team aims to create bio-inspired sensors with applications in noise-canceling materials and urban disaster response systems.
